Honda set to launch a family of robots at CES 2018

Each year the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) sees the launch of ground-breaking, innovative and sometimes downright unusual inventions and products from the world’s largest tech and consumer products manufacturers.

This tradition looks set to continue with Honda announcing that they will be using CES as a launchpad for their new ‘family’ of robots.

Named the 3E (Empower, Experience, Empathy) Robotics Concept, Honda's four robots have been designed to fulfil a number of different purposes.
(Image via Honda).Named the 3E (Empower, Experience, Empathy) Robotics Concept, Honda’s four robots have been designed to fulfil a number of different purposes, from learning and education assistance through to disaster recovery and empathy and companionship for isolated older people.

The four robots that Honda intends to launch are:

3E-A18: a companion robotics concept that shows compassion to humans with a variety of facial expressions.
3E-B18: a chair-type mobility concept designed for casual use in indoor or outdoor spaces.
3E-C18: a small-sized electric mobility concept with multifunctional cargo space.
3E-D18: an autonomous off-road vehicle concept with AI designed to support people in a broad range of work activities.The 3E-A18 is a companion robotics concept from Honda

Expressing a variety of functions and designs, the advanced robotics concepts demonstrate Honda’s vision of a society where robotics and AI can assist people in many situations.

Honda’s appearance at CES 2018 is about more than robots however…

In addition to the suite of robotics concepts, Honda will showcase its Mobile Power Pack World, which includes a portable, swappable battery pack for electric vehicles, and a re-charging system for use at home, recreation or during a natural disaster. The Mobile Power Pack World at CES will also exhibit a battery exchanger concept that can store and charge mobile power packs.
